Currumbin Tank

$39.00 inc. GST

This slightly hidden paradise nestled between the ocean and the creek translates to quicksand, place where the high trees grow or kangaroo, depending on which story you believe. As time progressed Currumbin’s first hotel was built in 1910 by Wallace McDonald on Duringan Street overlooking the mouth of the creek. Around this time tourism and industry significantly increased in the beachside and valley areas. The southern suburb is home to the Gold Coast’s world-renowned Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, which was opened in 1947 by beekeeper and flower grower Alex Griffiths. Alex originally began feeding the region’s wild lorikeets to prevent them from ravaging his prized blooms. The lorikeets remain a popular drawcard to the sanctuary today and the bird has become an unofficial ambassador for Currumbin. You’ll find the human locals are also a postcode proud bunch, telling tales of their beloved 4223 to anyone who’ll lend an ear.
